Your new role at SparkLoop

SparkLoop is the largest growth platform for newsletters. We build the toolkit that thousands of the best publishers use to grow and monetise their audiences, from one-person operations to authors like James Clear and Tim Ferriss to media companies like Morning Brew, Axios and 1440. We've been part of Kit since 2023, and we're a calm, profitable team that ships.

You'd join the product team, which builds and maintains the SparkLoop platform. We loosely follow Shape Up, and we hire managers of one: people we trust to run their own work.

In practice, you'll usually own a project from start to finish, by yourself. Not just the code. The whole thing. You'll figure out the implementation, talk to the people who need to be involved, make the calls, weigh the trade-offs and ship it. When a project is bet on, you'll get the context and the problem, but rarely the implementation details. Working those out is the job.

There's real freedom here, including a genuine say in what gets built, not only in how it gets built. But the thing that will make you successful is agency: the instinct to pick a problem up, make the call, and run with it. This isn't lone-wolf work either. There's plenty of collaboration and conversation inside the team. It's just that the project work itself is mostly yours to drive.

Experience is great, but we don't expect you to dive in at full speed from day one. You'll get a smooth, thoughtful onboarding to get you up to speed with how we do things, our systems, and getting to know the team.

This is a remote job, however to make sure time zones overlap with our current crew, we’re only looking for people based in the Americas, Africa, or Europe.

Tech stack

Pretty vanilla Ruby on Rails, and we like it that way: Rails, Postgres, ElasticSearch,Sidekiq, Hotwire/Stimulus and Tailwind CSS. Being a real Rails person matters for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of building new features end to end
  • Collaborate closely with the Engineering and Growth teams to make sure we build delightful features for our customers
  • Help scale and maintain our infrastructure as we grow

Signs this role is perfect for you

You're a self-starter who's energised, not paralysed, by a blank page and a problem to solve. More specifically, you'll probably recognise yourself in most of this:

  • You take real ownership, not just of projects but of whole areas of the product.
  • You're a strong writer. We're remote and async-first, so clearly explaining what you're doing, why, and where things stand is part of the job, not an afterthought.
  • You're a confident, full-stack Rails developer, comfortable across the stack rather than tied to one layer of it.
  • You're fluent with agentic coding. Some of us use Claude Code, some use Cursor; we don't mind which, but you should already be getting real leverage from these tools.
  • You're comfortable with ambiguity and making your own calls. We're a small company, so you'll often be the one deciding.
  • You're based in Europe or the Americas. We're fully remote, but we only hire in those regions; being able to work European or US hours from elsewhere isn't enough.

If you read all that nodding along, that's a very good sign. If you read it nodding the other way, this probably isn't the role for you, and it's worth knowing that early.

Why you'll love working at SparkLoop

We're a calm, profitable company. Work is one part of your life, and we expect you to fit it around everything else, not the other way round.
That doesn't make us any less ambitious: our small team has built the leading toolkit for newsletter growth, and we've got big plans for what comes next.

You'll be working with awesome people, building a product people genuinely love and shaping an entire industry.

A few of the things that come with the job:

  • $107,000 to $130,000 a year depending on experience, with quick progression, plus stock options
  • A fully remote team
  • Annual team retreats (recent ones: Portugal, London, Rome, Turkey)
  • A generous holiday policy
  • Side projects encouraged
